Celebrating sport and physical activity

Year 4 / 5 Netball

The Year 4 and 5 netball team embarked on their first tournament on Saturday. For all the girls who played it was their first experience of competitive netball.

The girls played brilliantly under the expert eye of Caroline Graham our fantastic coach. They won 3 games, drew 1 and lost 3 which meant they came 4th in the league.

A very impressive achievement. Well played girls!

Running Club - 'Away Run'

For the last running club of the year our wonderful running coaches, Julie Wilson and Julie Cuff, organised and led an 'away run' which took the children off the Nook Lane site and on a fabulous route through Loxley Valley. The run was a huge success and there it was great to see so many parents, carers and ex-pupils coming to join in and support the run. A big thank you to everyone who came to help out and well done to all the children who ran their socks off for the whole run!

We would also like to take this opportunity to extend a special thank you to Julie Cuff and Julie Wilson who have volunteered their time to lead running club every week. Running now has a huge profile at Nook Lane and our cross country teams are going from strength to strength and this is down to the hard work and dedication of these amazing parent volunteers. A big thank you must also go to those parents and ex-pupils who have also helped to lead running club over the year.

Y2/Y3 Transition Sports Afternoon

On Monday, the Year 2 children from Stannington Infant's School joined the Y3s for an afternoon of sport and games.

In a brilliantly organised transition event, the Year 5 children led a variety of activities from javelin to assault courses. The Year 5children also supported all of the younger children in their roles as team leaders.

It was a fantastic event and thankfully the rain held off. All of the children left with red, smiling faces!

Movefest 2019

During the Spring Term, the children in Dance Club worked incredibly hard in preparation for their performance at LINKS 2019 Movement Festival. Nook Lane have attended this event for several years and it is one of the largest in the LINKs School Sport Partnership calendar.

This year's theme was 'The Greatest Show' and, on Friday 29th March, children put on their dancing shoes and enjoyed a day of fun, music and dancing. Parents and teachers also threw themselves into the day, with Mrs Quick making her debut and showing off her flossing talents.

The children's hard work definitely paid off as their performances were spectacular!

Cross country 2018/19

What a superb finale to the cross country season at the Sheffield Primary Cross Country relays on Saturday morning. All the teams were absolutely fantastic and showed great determination and team spirit throughout. A special mention must go to the Y6 boys who finished 3rd and can leave Nook Lane knowing that they are in the top 3 teams in Sheffield! A big shout out must also go to Matthew and Ben who were excellent team players running alone due to not enough runners to make a team.

The presentations for the cross country league were also made before the relay races started. This year has been full of success for Nook Lane cross country and we would like to say a huge well done and thank you to all the runners who have given up their time and raced for Nook Lane this year. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Y3/4 boys (individual) - 7th place - Finlay Mackenzie
  • Y5/6 girls (individual) - 2nd place - Izzy-May Wilson
  • Y5/6 boys (individual) - 13th place - William Baldwin
  • Y5/6 boys (team) - 3rd place

We couldn't be prouder or more impressed by the team spirit and support shown by all the children throughout the season at events and during training. For the Y6 children, some of who have been running for Nook Lane since year 4, it is the perfect reward for all their hard work and determination over the years.

A massive thank you to Julie Cuff, Julie Wilson, Liz Hemsworth, Sue Jeff, Jamie Hemsworth, Michaela Mander and all the other volunteers who have organised and run running club every week this year, training the children in preparation for these events!

Key Steps Gymnastics Competition - Tuesday 5th March 2019

Mrs Robbins and Mrs Mumby took 12 children to Concord sports centre for the inter-school competition which they have been training very hard for over the past weeks.

Their hard work paid off with some fantastic results! Well done girls!

  • Y4 team (Freya, Ava, Lily J and Olivia) - 9th place
  • Y5 team (Katie, Olivia, Imogen and Emily) - 8th place
  • Y5/6 team (Jyotika, Phoebe and Bethany) - 2nd place

Primary School Bouldering Championships

On Friday night, a fantastic team of 16 children went to the Mini Climbing Works to take part in the qualifying round of the Sheffield Primary Bouldering Championships.

From the more experienced climbers to the first timers, everybody gave every climb their absolute best continually challenging themselves along the way. Despite the tired arms, the children weren't daunted as the climbs got gradually more challenging.

A massive thank you to all the very supportive parents especially Claire Brown who supported staff at the event. We will keep you posted on the results of the qualifying round!

Year 3 Gymnastics and Movement Festival 2019

The Y3 girls have had a brilliant evening at the gymnastics festival at Bradfield School.

Joined by many other local schools the girls were able to have a go, practise and perfect some of their moves. They gave everything their all, from the floor routine to the vault, with big smiles on their faces. Well done girls!

Year Five Netball 2019

The Y5 netball teams had a fabulous afternoon on Saturday when they attended the High School Under 10s Tournament. There were over 10 different schools there and they had to play 7 matches.

The girls played brilliantly and improved with every match they played. Their attitude and sportsmanship was outstanding. The parental support was also really appreciated.

A huge thank you to Caroline and her daughter Amelia for coaching and umpiring on the day.

Santa Hat Fun Run

On Friday 7th December, the first Nook Lane Santa Hat Fun Run was a great success despite the typically English winter weather! All the children had lots of festive fun, there were lots of sweaty, muddy Santas by the end and everyone was full of Christmassy cheer.

We would like to thank the overwhelming number of parents, carers and grandparents who came out in their numbers to support the event and hope to hold similar events later in the year!

Halloween Fun Run

What a spooktacular first Halloween family fun run on Friday!

It was fantastic to see so many children and parents getting involved and all the creepy costumes. There were lots of red faces and happy smiles by the last lap. All finished off with some Halloween treats.

A big thank you to our fabulous parent organisers.

Look out for more details about the next run. We would love to see you all there!

Sainsbury's School Games - Sports Day 2017

On Thursday 6th of June, Nook Lane Junior School held its annual Sainsbury's School Games Sports day. The children competed in house teams in a range of different events before the long distance, sprint, bean bag balance and javelin throw events at the end of the afternoon.

The children were amazing in their support and encouragement for each other and the staff were all so proud of how they conducted themselves throughout the afternoon. They are a credit to their school!

  • Winning house - Sheaf
  • Winning team - Loxley C

A huge thank you to all the families and supporters who came to cheer the children along, it made for a cracking atmosphere!

Move it Day - Friday 30th June 2017

On Friday 30th June the whole of Nook Lane took part in a city wide initiative called 'Move It' day. The idea of the event was to get as many children and adults in Sheffield active for the majority of the day.

The children and teachers of Nook Lane were challenged to be active in class for at least 50% of the school day. Lots of active sessions were planned and we even had an active singing assembly, led by the ever energetic Mrs Parkin.

Everyone really got involved in the day and it was a huge success! Hopefully it will inspire the children (and teachers!) to get more active!

Amazing Year 6 Netball! - June 2016

The amazing Year 6 netball team are now the best in South Yorkshire!

The girls went to the English Institute of Sport earlier this week to compete against the best teams in South Yorkshire. Once again they played stunning netball and breezed their way to the semi final.

The final was the most challenging match, but like true Nook Lane Netballers they weren't phased by the tough competition. The final score was Westways 2 - Nook Lane 4. The girls are now ready to start training for the Yorkshire finals which will be held on July 18th.
